The New York Magpies were first established in 1998 way back at nearly the beginning of Australian Rules Football in the USA and the development of the United States Australian Football League (USAFL).

The Magpies added a full women's team also in 2008 who with four other women's teams made their first appearance as the USAFL Nationals, held that year in Colorado Springs CO.
