The Rome Redbacks were formed in 2018 and have been integral in the development of Aussie Rules Football in the SE of USA. Their main event of the year is the Three Rivers Cup in May that attracts teams from nearby in the SE. The Redbacks attended the USAFL National Championships for the first time in 2023 in Sarasota FL.

The Redbacks founder Wayne Kraska, is the owner of Play Aussie USA and has been assisting the development of Aussie Rules football across the USA with his business since it was established also in 2018, however, his involvement in Aussie Rules football in the USA goes way back to 2001.

The Rome Redbacks currently organizes the NGAFL, a league of smaller regional teams comprising the Etowah River Cooters, New South Whales, Chattanooga Flying Foxes and the East Atlanta Tall Boys. The NGAFL play on smaller fields with smaller team sizes however in essence the game played of Australian Rules Football is the same.
